That Night
There they
were, as the boy was dropping the girl off at her place, they stayed in front
of her house by the tree.
The girl sat
sideways on his bike, and the boy stood by his bike, his broad shoulder
sheltered her, almost protecting her as they chatted away through the night,
neither wanting the girl to enter her house just yet.
They shared witty banters, and out comes a joke
both of them knew too well, they laughed as they joked about the flickering
street light when suddenly the boy stopped.
It was a
clear night, the rain that poured the previous afternoon had just washed all
the bad smells away. The moon was full, providing the most natural light known
in the nighttime, just showing itself after it had concealed itself with the
dark clouds from the rain.
One of the streetlight flickered on and off, as the boy and the girl argued playfully regarding the light.
The light
went off once, the girl looked at the light, the boy smiled.
The light
went on again, they shared their joke and started their long-known argument.
The light
went off for the second time, the boy stopped and looked at the girl, smiling
and looking tenderly at the girl, he gave the girl his final word of their
playful argument.
The boy
moved closer to the girl and as their lips met, the light flickered.
The light
went on, the boy drew his face away from the kiss, and looked at the girl, worried,
and the girl was dazed, confused, she said "Ah, the lights went on
again"
The boy
smiled tenderly at the girl's remark and he then held her in his arms, the girl
closed her eyes as if trying to chisel this memory in her head forever.
But as the boy said "I love you" the girl froze, not knowing what to do, she just nodded, hoping that her nod would be enough of an answer for him, for she was too overwhelmed by joy to utter out any words.
It was the
perfect night for them, a single event that was the beginning for them, the
loveliest night of all, yet...
